Prof Etienne de la Rey Nel
Dr Nel is head of the Paediatric Gastroenterology at
Tygerberg Hospital and the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health of the
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Stellenbosch University.
He established the Paediatric Gastroenterdogy Unit at
Tygerberg Hospital in1988. The unit now provides sophisticated care to children
with severe or complex intestinal, liver, and nutritional diseases and is one
of two referral units in the Western Cape.
He has been active in the development of sub-specialty in
Southern Africa. Current research interests are the management of severe acute
malnutrition and intestinal disease in HIV infected children.
