Professor Ekkehard Zollner
Ekkehard Werner
Arthur Zöllner is an Associate Professor of Paediatrics and Head of the
Paediatric Endocrine Unit of Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital. His field of study and major research topic
is adrenal suppression caused by corticosteroids (the topic of his PhD thesis). Grants from the NRF and SATS support his
current research on genetic predictors of adrenal suppression. Previous research was funded by grants from
the MRC and the Harry Crossley Foundation, the AstraZeneca SATS Award and the
Clinical Research Doctoral Fellowship.
Awards included the SEMDSA and Roche Travel Awards as well as the Best
Paper and Best Poster Award at an ALLSA and SEMDSA conference
respectively. Ekkehard is a reviewer for
14 different international journals. He
has published 28 papers, has presented at international and national
conferences and has contributed to endocrine and asthma guidelines. Collaborative work was done with several
pharmaceutical firms and the International Trial of the Maternal Pediatric
Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group.
