Conference for young scholars

24 to 26 January 2024

It’s time for young researchers and postgraduate students to come to our biennial conference in Stellenbosch. Use this platform to present your work in applied linguistics and language practice, formal linguistics, and literature.

About you

You're a young researcher who graduated within the last five years. Or perhaps you're a postgraduate student busy with a PhD or a Master’s degree. Or perhaps you’ve just completed your Honours. You want to present your research to an audience of your peers and get credit for all your hard work.


About the theme

There is no theme. But you have done work in

  • Applied linguistics and language practice (editing, interpreting, language acquisition, lexicography and translation studies)
  • Formal linguistics
  • Literature

and we want to hear about it.


Presentation format

  • A 20-minute paper
  • A poster presentation


Presentation languages

Multilingualism is the way to go and you are welcome to present in

  • Afrikaans
  • Dutch
  • English
  • Xhosa

An interpreting service will be available.

Submit your abstract or proposal of 200 to 300 words. Submissions close 23 October 2023.
