The purpose of the Monitors is to listen, observe and critically unpack welcoming practices. Monitors serve as an external lens to welcoming practices across Stellenbosch University's Faculties, Private Student Organisations (PSO) and Residences. The aim is to effectively provide an objective measurement of the efficiency of the welcoming period for each Cluster and all Faculties by assessing their welcoming period holistically, looking at all aspects of the transition to university life, both non-academic and academic.

The Monitors aim to provide a safe channel of communication for the newcomers, especially in the diverse student communities, by representing their concerns, needs, and goals to management. The Monitors work is a crucial function in pursuing the institutional objectives of developing inclusive, innovative and future-focused student communities.
