Give us your comments on the new SU spatial development framework

Stellenbosch University's Facilities Management Division (SUFM) develops an integrated Spatial Development Framework (SDF) as a high level guideline for future development of the campus built environment.

The SDF identifies key spatial, planning and institutional informants which guide future built environment needs.  The framework outlines high-level spatial design strategies with the objective of providing SUFM with a holistic and cohesive overview for future planning.

It is important to emphasize that the SDF is a guideline for future development and is flexible enough to change as the world changes as we see rapid change in for example exponential development of technology and the effects of the pandemic we are currently experiencing.

The development of the SDF for Stellenbosch has been done in consultation with various stakeholders internally and externally and obviously with the local and provincial authorities of Stellenbosch.  This final concept SDF for Stellenbosch was presented to the Rectorate for consultation on 1 June 2021.

A summary of the SDF is presented in the format of a YouTube video. The video contains the following content:

·       Purpose of the SDF

·       Principles of the SDF

·       Land Use strategy

·       Stellenbosch University in context with Stellenbosch Town

·       Main access Routes

·       Campus Precincts

·       Proposed Key Future Capital Projects

·       Proposed Key Future refurbishments

·       Proposed Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) routes

Please look at the video, it is 15 minutes long, and give your comments and feedback to  planning@sun.ac.za  Once we have collated the comments and suggestions we will arrange meetings to discuss the SDF as necessary.

We will appreciate all comments by Friday 9 July 2021.
