Who is the presenter?

Jana Nel started her teaching career at a South African multilingual and multicultural primary school. Her journey continued as a lecturer at the Education Faculty, Stellenbosch University, where she trains all student teachers to learn isiXhosa as a language of conversational competence. She is an enthusiastic and passionate lecturer where her roots with isiXhosa originated when she was eight years old and specialized in isiXhosa at university level.

She believes that by learning an African language like isiXhosa you are enabling yourself to connect with your fellow South Africans on a deeper level. Nelson Mandela stated that when you speak to a man in a language that he understands, it goes to his head. When you speak to him in his language, it goes to his heart. She is passionate about emphasizing this philosophy to equip her students to go and reach out to the hearts of our fellow South Africans.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at members of the public. Non-mother tongue speakers of isiXhosa who would like to be able to converse in basic isiXhosa should register for this interactive language course.

To ensure optimal learning, we limit the number of participants. Face-to-face sessions are complemented by online learning, and certain aspects of the course are assessed.
