End: 10/06/2022, 12:00
Contact:Susan Lotz -
Location: Online

The Learning and Teaching RC would like to invite all stakeholders at SU who are involved in promoting the use of isiXhosa at the University to join them for a workshop on extending the use of the language.

Let us join forces to advance isiXhosa at the University by sharing what we do, how we do it and what resources we use. In doing so, we can find ways to collaborate and strengthen each other's hand in advancing isiXhosa and promoting true multilingualism at our institution.

Dr Antoinette van der Merwe, Senior Director: Learning and Teaching Enhancement, will facilitate the workshop, and Prof Deresh Ramjugernath, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Learning and Teaching, will be your host.

Date: 10 June
Time: 09:00–12:00
Venue: Online
RSVP: Cheryl Cornelissen at cherylc@sun.ac.za, by Friday 3 June. You will be added to an MS Team and receive the meeting link.

As a pre-workshop activity, all participants are invited to provide information on the activities that they are already engaged in to promote isiXhosa on this shared document by means of comments. This draft action plan should be filled in by 7 June. See the  workshop information sheet for more details.

At the workshop, the discussion will centre around the following:

  • What needs to be added to the action plan?
  • What needs to be amended in the action plan?
  • What resources and funding do we require?
  • How do we want to prioritise the different activities/actions planned with a timeline?
  • How can we collaborate internally on the activities/actions planned?
  • Who are the potential external collaborators that we are already collaborating with?
  • Are there additional external collaborators that we can identify to collaborate with?

Envisaged output of workshop:  Draft action plan for the promotion of isiXhosa with activities, responsible persons and timeline.
