CTL invites you to a seminar on teaching & learning excellence, presented by Prof Ingrid Rewitzky.

The Topic - Towards using complexity theory to guide programme evaluation in the Faculty of Science

Within the context of programme renewal at SU, it will be important to have an effective programme evaluation framework that also focuses on the dynamic nature of learning. This will require a shift from a linear approach of programme evaluation with four basic components – inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes – to an approach that understands the multi-level outcomes emerging in programmes. In this seminar a framework for programme evaluation is presented that embeds the five principles of complexity theory – networks, emergence, self-organisation, feedback sensitivity and agility.

The Speaker - Prof Ingrid Rewitzky

Ingrid has been involved in educational leadership at Stellenbosch University through her roles as professor of Mathematics (since 2009), Executive Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences

(since 2010), and Vice-Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the Faculty of Science (since 2011).

As a mathematician, Ingrid has focused on interdisciplinary research in Mathematics of Computer Science, co-authored two research monographs, published over twenty research papers, and supervised postgraduate students. She has been the associate editor for Quaestiones Mathematicae since 2010 and has served on the IMU (International Mathematical Union) Committee on Electronic Information and Communication since 2021. Recently, she has been engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning and is a SU Teaching Fellow. In 2018, Ingrid received the Stellenbosch University Chancellor's Award in recognition of sustained excellence throughout her career.
