WEDNESDAY ART TALKABOUT

HOW ART IMPACTS JUSTICE

The Constitutional Court Art Collection's influence as a visual portrayal of constitutionalism

The Stellenbosch University Museum invites you to a Wednesday Art Talkabout with Francois Lion‑Cachet, in conversation about the Constitutional Court Art Collection (CCAC).

The Constitutional Court building, on Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, functions as a type of museum, being a site of remembrance but also a space continuously renewed through exhibitions of the Constitutional Court Art Collection. Many artworks in the collection speak to past and current day injustices, yet also advocate for a more just future. Some works portray the political agency and lived experiences of the artists, while others contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive space. Art is as dynamic as the Constitution is, offering unique readings at different times. The CCAC holds immense significance as it provides a constitutional aesthetic and vision for South Africa. The presentation explores the CCAC's formation, select artworks, and the crucial aspect of its continued and considered growth.
