​The Stellenbosch Laser Student Chapter would like to invite you to join us for a public lecture entitled, LASER: The tale of organised light by Dr G.W. Bosman. This talk will take place online via Microsoft Teams (link) on 14 September 2021 at 17:30 and will take a closer look at this thing called a laser.

Most of us have encountered the word “Laser", albeit only in the context of science fiction movies and Queen songs. Some of us might be aware of laser use in our everyday life, but treat them as convenient technological luxuries, much like the use of a microwave oven or a wireless charger. But what exactly is a laser?  In this talk Dr Bosman will attempt to demystify lasers, looking at what makes them tick, the necessary ingredients to make a laser as well as the important properties of a laser and how these are utilised in application.
