The African Women in Mathematics symposium will celebrate the International Day of Women in Mathematics on 12 May 2021 with an online meeting featuring snapshot plenary talks, panel discussions and the screening of Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani. In 2014, Maryam Mirzakhani became the first woman and the first Iranian to be honoured by mathematics' highest prize, the Fields Medal.
