It’s Women’s Month and Stellenbosch University's Development and Alumni Relations Division is celebrating by introducing a new network for all our outstanding Matie women. Please join us for the official launch of the Stellenbosch Women Alumnae Network – or SWAN.

SWAN aims to bring together women through mentorship programmes, leadership training, round-table discussions and many more to enable networking among diverse groups of women in a variety of industries — and, of course, we want to have fun along the way!

Our main speaker is an inspiring Matie woman in her own right, Dr Marlene le Roux. As the current CEO of the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town, her passion is simply to use Arts and Culture to empower and enable disadvantaged groups and to make a difference in another human being’s life. She is the co-founder of the Women’s Achievement Network for Disability, a South African disability and women’s rights activist, and recognised as one of South Africa’s most influential women in business and government. Dr Le Roux has been Shoprite/Checkers Woman of the Year, received the Chevalier des Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a French knighthood in the Performing Arts, amongst many international and national awards (but we are sure that Dr Le Roux treasures the fact that she has twice been Stellenbosch University alumnus of the year most).

Another successful alumna, Dr Nthabiseng Moleko will facilitate the discussion. When she isn’t lecturing at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, where she teaches Economics and Statistics, Dr Moleko advocates for women’s rights as a Commissioner on the Commission for Gender Equality, where she is the Deputy Chairperson. Having worked extensively in the economic development landscape she is a regular commentator as a Development Economist and thought-leader on issues of national development, economic justice and the use of financial markets for furthering inclusive growth and reducing inequality.
