​In pursuance of SU's endeavour to be a leading research-intensive institution in Africa with global impact, we assumed responsibility for hosting the second South Africa Sweden University Forum (SASUF) on 9 and 10 May. This consisted of a research and innovation seminar, and a leadership summit at the Conservatoire and STIAS respectively.

The SASUF Research and Innovation Seminar would bring together 400 researchers and representatives from funding agencies, industry and members of government from South Africa and Sweden. The aim was to explore innovative ways to address such challenges as climate change, education, health systems, society, sustainable urbanization and cybersecurity through research, innovation and collaboration.

The SASUF Leadership Summit would be a gathering of the Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors of the 36 universities in South Africa and Sweden represented in the Forum to further strengthen collaboration in education, research and innovation across the agreed research themes.
