Mara Viveros Vigoya is a Professor at the School of Gender Studies and the Department of Anthropology at the National University of Colombia.

She received her PhD in Anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and became a translator into Spanish of many of Aimé Césaire’s political writings.

A scholar-activist in the Colombian feminist movement, she has published extensively in scholarly journals and co-authored books on issues related to the relationship between social differences and inequalities, intersections of gender, sexuality, class, race and ethnicity in the social dynamics of Latin American societies. Her latest book on these themes is Les Couleurs de la Masculinité: Expériences intersectionnelles et pratiques de pouvoir en Amérique du Sud.

In the upcoming lecture, she will discuss the relevance of Cesaire’s work in today’s world, and look at how current decolonial and feminist thought can build on and expand Cesaire’s ideas.
