Sean Metzger explores material and
discursive elements of clothing to think about the relationships among gender
and representation. Drawing on his book, Chinese Looks: Fashion, Performance,
Race, Metzger will further discuss the ways in which modernity, politics, and
economics are interwoven through what people wear on stage, on screen, and in
everyday life. How does dress facilitate and/or complicate cultural
identification? How do individuals fashion themselves in relation to dominant
narratives?
