​April 22, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, is almost here! The world will experience the first ever digital Earth Day, and the first global "come together" moment since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This offers a special moment to confront both challenges, the coronavirus and the climate crises, and tell the world we need to be better prepared next time around. Earth Day Network, the global coordinator of Earth Day, has adapted to all digital and at-home platforms to ensure anyone can still participate in a meaningful Earth Day. For the MobilizeU audience, colleges and college students, this means participating in 3 unique, impactful ways on April 22 and beyond:

Participate in Online Events and Webinars. 

Just because we are at home doesn't mean we can't gather and discuss important environmental topics! Here are opportunities to find online events:

• Explore the Digital Earth Day map for topics you are interested in. This is also where you can register any events you are hosting! 
• Head to earthday.org during the 24 hours of Earth Day (EST time) for hourly rotating challenges you can do at home!
• Log in to Happiness & Sustainability Around the World, a live 24-hour webinar sponsored by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. At 2pm EST the MobilizeU team will be featured to discuss the role of higher education in Earth Day and the climate crises, from 1970 to present.

Add your voice to The Campus Climate Project.

Now that the environmental movement has been growing for 50+ years, let's take a moment to reflect on our progress, particularly on the role of universities in the climate change fight. Today's students must be prepared to take on a slew of complex problems such as climate change, no matter their discipline. To help us collect data on how campuses are preparing students to address global environmental challenges, add your voice to the map now!

Advocate to Make Climate a Class. 

No matter the academic discipline, there are intersections between the environment and curriculum. Professors: this Earth Month, take a moment to discuss these connections with your class. Even a brief conversation is valuable in illuminating this perspective in your students. Students: reach out to all your professors and ask them to make climate part of your class this April, and beyond!
