First prize for Tshibalanganda at IMGRAD conference

​​Muofhe Tshibalanganda, an analyst at the CAF CT Scanner Unit, won first prize for best MSc presentation at the Imaging with Radiation (IMGRAD) 2021 virtual conference which took place from 4-5 August.

The title of her presentation was 'Microfossil evaluation by X-ray CT for petroleum exploration' and focused on high-resolution X-ray microCT imaging of exploratory drill samples to demonstrate the potential of microCT to add value in microfossil characterisation for petroleum exploration.

The IMGRAD conference is a biennial conference organised by Necsa, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the Stellenbosch University instrument scientist responsible for the X-ray computed tomography systems in South Africa. The conference brings researchers and postgraduate students together to showcase the output generated by these facilities.

The next IMGRAD conference will be held in Stellenbosch in 2 years.

Prof Anton du Plessis and ms Carlyn Wells of the CAF CT Scanner Unit gave talks at the conference.
