On Thursday afternoon
18 October 2018, a Festschrift entitled “Reading Writing Right: Essays
presented in honour of Prof Elna Mouton” was handed over to her. The handing over event was held at the
Faculty of Theology, and was attended mainly by contributors to the book and
donors. Prof Mouton retired from her position in New Testament studies from
Stellenbosch at the end of 2017. In a collection of essays, former students,
colleagues and friends of Prof Elna Mouton honoured her life, career and
scholarly contributions over many decades, including 17½ years at Stellenbosch
University. The various essays interact with Prof Mouton’s concern for biblical
hermeneutics, ethics and the interactions and connections between the two,
ultimately illustrating the width and variety of interest that her work
stimulated and which it interacted. The volume was edited by Proff Jeremy Punt
and Marius J Nel, her two colleagues in New Testament studies at Stellenbosch
University at the time of her retirement.
