Title of presentation: Designing your teaching online

Short biography of presenter: Maricel is a lecturer at The Department of Food Science, teaching and conducting research in new product development. She has worked at the University of the Western Cape, Cape Peninsula University of Technology and returned to Stellenbosch University to the same Department where she obtained her PhD. Maricel is interested in various aspects of Teaching and Learning and she is fortunate to be part of the 2020 cohort participating in the Scholarship of Educational Leadership.

Blurb: We all have to suddenly design our teaching to be fully operational in the online space. This can be daunting, especially if you think that students learn differently and that we enable a nice online experience for the students to ensure engagement and participation without the luxury of standing in front of them like we usually would have. There are many questions that come to mind: How do we ensure constructive alignment, having to focus on the outcomes but also on the way we want to assess our students? Which online activities do we choose and how many, to not overbear the students, but still making it interesting enough and keep to the notional hours?

Fear not. The good news is that there is a free online tool that have been developed that can help you design effectively.

This presentation will focus on a can-do approach introducing Laurillard's 6 ways of learning with practical tips for designing your teaching online. This will help lecturers that still have to develop or already developed material in the online space.
