Conference Theme:

Co-curriculum as Pedagogy for Social Justice: praxis and practice for shaping 21st century global citizen-leaders

Date: Tuesday, 10 November - Thursday, 12 November 2020
Venue: Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Waterfront Breakwater Lodge, South Africa

The purpose of this higher educational conference is to explore emerging trends and transitions in the higher education co-curriculum domain and the intersections thereof with social justice and the formation of the global citizen-leader.
By attending the conference, participants will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore the global phenomena of the intentional and unintentional emergence of student advocacy and activism towards social justice through a co-curriculum lens. 
  • Engage the notion of internationalising the co-curriculum in preparing students for global citizen-leadership within a social justice framework.
  • Learn from and interact with national and international experiential educators in select Master Classes on various issues facing higher education practitioners and experiential educators.
  • Experience the passion and commitment of experiential educators offering co-curriculum programmes that impact through exemplars from across the world. 
  • Contribute to collating purposeful practices and pointers for increasing teaching and learning effectiveness in the co-curriculum domain.
  • Connect nationally as well as internationally with co-curriculum experiential educators in forming networked learning communities 
  • Contribute to and engage with diverse views and collective future visions in shaping pathways for transformative teaching and learning within the co-curriculum domain.
  • Explore the embedding of responsible research and innovation practices towards developing knowledge, skills and attitudes for research within the co-curriculum domain for knowledge creation.
