The Department of Afrikaans and Dutch is offering two Dutch for beginners courses. Both courses are fully online and are held twice a year. The next courses start in September. Both courses run for 10 weeks.

Course 1 is a fully online self-study package. Every week you are granted access to new learning materials including short videos and exercises. The course fee is R1500 for staff and students of the University of Stellenbosch and R1750 for the general public. The course starts on Monday 6 September.

Course 2 is an online course that includes a weekly group lesson on Wednesday evenings from 6pm until 7.30pm with Sabien Van Craenendonck via Zoom. In this course you get access to tailor-made video clips and exercises to prepare you for the next lesson and to apply your acquired knowledge. This course is capped at 18 participants. The course fee is R2000 for staff and students of the University of Stellenbosch and R2500 for the general public. The course starts on Wednesday 8 September.

For both courses an intermediate level of Afrikaans is needed as the course is based on a contrastive approach.

Course 1 and course 2 are both beginners courses that cover the same material. 

At the end of each course, participants take an online test. If you pass this test, you will receive a "Dutch for beginners" certificate from the short course division of the University of Stellenbosch.
