Prof Ronald van Toorn
Prof Ronald van Toorn completed his undergraduate training at
Stellenbosch University, leaving a few years later for the United Kingdom. He
completed his pediatric training in London and returned home to further
specialize in pediatrics and pediatric neurology at the Red Cross War Memorial
Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. In 2003 he was appointed as a consultant in
pediatric neurology at Tygerberg academic Hospital, University of Stellenbosch
and in 2015 he completed his PHD in pediatrics. He serves on the executive
committee of the Pediatric and neurodevelopmental association of Southern
Africa (PANDA SA) and is also a Paul Harris fellow of the rotary foundation of
Rotary International. Current research interests are pediatric neuroinfectious
diseases (especially TB meningitis and HIV), epilepsy, neonatal neurology and
neuromuscular disorders.
