Exploring the development and application of a responsive curriculum framework for healthcare professionals in South Africa

PROJECT UPDATE

Phase 1 of the project has been completed. The research site for this phase was the lead institution, Stellenbosch University. Two programmes from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences participated in this phase of the project - the MBChB programme and the Physiotherapy programme. To date all data have been gathered and analysed. Outputs from this phase include presentations at multiple conferences, one published paper, and there are currently three papers in progress and one book chapter in review.

Phase 2 of the project is nearing completion. To date all data have been gathered and analysed for four of the five collaborating universities (UWC, SMU, WITS and CPUT). Data gathering is nearing completion at UCT, after which analysis will take place. Outputs from this phase include presentations at multiple conferences, and there are currently four papers in progress – one per collaborating institution.

Phase 3 is completed. A meta-analysis of data from all of the six participating institutions was done, in which the findings from phases 1 and 2 were drawn together into a paper about the understandings and practices of educators towards responsive HPE curricula. There are further research outputs currently in progress across the various institutions.
