Medicine and Health Sciences
Welcome to Stellenbosch University

Prospective Undergraduate Students

Medicine and Health Sciences graduates from Stellenbosch University are nationally and internationally renowned for their ethical and caring attitude, as well as the high quality of healthcare they deliver to their clients, patients and communities.

The Faculty's endeavour to ensure that the student population reflects the demographic profile of the country makes this campus a true multicultural home. Tygerberg Campus offers a language-friendly environment that accommodates different language groups.

Access to undergraduate programmes in Medicine and Health Sciences is subject to a structured selection process. Student numbers in Medicine and Health Sciences programmes are limited by Health Professions Council and South African Nursing Council regulations, the available infrastructure and budget of the health services and the university, and the high demands of the programmes, which usually can only be completed successfully by students who performed above average at school.

Open Day 2024

This year, over 4000 prospective students and their families visited Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Campus.

If you missed it, you can still get all the important information about studying with us here: https://blogs.sun.ac.za/open-day/

Tygerberg Campus tours

Guided by current students, tours visit the main attractions of Tygerberg Campus and also give parents and prospective applicants a current student's perspective of life here. Tours are offered by appointment. Due to a large number of visitors and time constraints, tours do not visit residences at any time.

Medicine and Health Sciences information sessions

Information sessions are structured to give prospective applicants an overview of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science's application process, admission criteria, financial aid system, academic organisation, and student life. Parents and students attend together and are encouraged to ask questions.

We welcome school groups of 10 or more to campus for group visit sessions. Group visits are conducted most weekdays all year long and we recommend scheduling your visit at least two weeks in advance. We ask that no matter what grade your students are in, you keep your group size to fewer than 50 participants.

All individual and group visits must be arranged in advance with the Office for Student Recruitment and Support
