Welcome to Stellenbosch University

Face-2-Face Engagement

The Centre for Student Recruitment and Career Advice is committed to using innovative techniques and approaches to position Stellenbosch University (SU) as a value-adding institution within the prospective student market. Ms Janicke Dill, one of our most experienced advisors, left the team at the end of May to pursue her passion in the Southern Cape. We are, however, looking forward to the arrival of two new members of staff who will be joining the team on 1 July.

The Centre is currently focusing on improving our statistics related to completed applications. We have, to this end, committed to send personalised emails to the 500 schools on our visiting list limiting the number of incomplete applications of prospective students who meet the minimum criteria of their academic programme of choice.

We have been fortunate to partner with various internal and external role players to ensure that we utilise available platforms to interact with our target audience. These partnerships include:

  • the Department of Forest and Wood Science - to raise an awareness of their offering within the Grabouw area;
  • Blue Bus Ministries - to offer an immersive experience to prospective students from the Delft community;
  • Promaths Alumni - to raise awareness of the SU offering among participants of the Kutlwanong Tutoring Programme in Philippi;
  • Faculty of Education - to interact with grade 10 learners from Zwelethemba High in Worcester;
  • WOW project - to interact with matriculants from Beaufort West Secondary School; and
  • Metropole South Education District (Circuit 4) - to identify possible candidates to attend the Winter Week of the Science Faculty in June.

 In addition to the activities of the team of advisors, the report also summarises my personal involvement over the past month. The engagement is grouped as school-based, guest-speaking and institutional involvement.
