British American Tobacco
British American Tobacco South Africa (BATSA) is part of the British American Tobacco group of companies and is the largest manufacturer of cigarettes in South Africa. The company has 27 brands in its portfolio, providing cigarettes to more than nine in ten of SA’s five million adult smokers. BATSA values the principles of corporate social responsibility and are one of the few South African companies who fulfil the demanding global CSR (corporate social responsibility) standards and guidelines. In 2003 the company was been involved with a countrywide HIV/AIDS Know Your Status campaign, and in 2006 with an HIV/Wellness Own Your Status campaign. BATSA further demonstrates its interest in the emotional and social wellbeing of employees through an Employee Wellness Programme (EWP).
BTC South Africa
The Belgian Technical Cooperation is the implementing partner of the programs of the Belgian Cooperation. As a public service provider, and on behalf of the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, BTC supports developing countries in their fight against poverty. BTC worldwide also provides services on behalf of other national and international organisations contributing to sustainable human development. BTC is managing more than 200 programs in 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. With a turnover in 2007 of 213 million euro, BTC is employing 420 staff, 160 of them at headquarters in Brussels and 260 in countries where projects and programmes are being implemented. BTC has 23 representations abroad.
Equity Fights AIDS (founded in 1987) and Broadway Cares (founded in 1988) merged in 1992 to become Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which is based in New York. The newly established non-profit fundraising organisation continues to fund the social service work of the previously separate organisations and to award grants twice a year to HIV and AIDS service organisations. The objectives of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS include mobolising the abilities within the entertainment industry to combat HIV/AIDS; increasing public awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS through education; and promoting public support for programmes and services that benefit people living with HIV and AIDS.
United States Agency for International Development
USAID is the principal US agency to give assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty and engaging in democratic reforms. USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. Their work supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances US foreign policy objectives by supporting economic growth, agriculture and trade, global health, democracy, as well as conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance.
