Admission and selection requirements
For admission into the programme an Honours degree obtained with a minimum average of 65%, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University, is required. Applications must be accompanied by a brief, preliminary research proposal.

Programme structure and contents
This programme, which requires a minimum of one year of study, focuses on the acquisition and broadening of knowledge in a specific area of Psychology. It also aims at the development of research skills, particularly with respect to the planning and execution of research and the reporting of research results.

It entails the completion of a thesis (180 credits), the topic of which is determined in consultation with a supervisor. It is preferable that the study forms part of an existing departmental research project and, where possible, focuses on a psychosocial problem within the South African context. The thesis may be written in Afrikaans or English. On completion of the thesis, in consultation with the supervisor, students are expected to prepare a paper for publication which is based on their research.

The thesis is examined according to the University's regulations for the examination of masters theses as stipulated in the section on advanced degrees in Part 1 of the Prospectus.

The MA Psychology (by Thesis) Departmental form 2022, will be uploaded before the Stellenbosch University Online Application Process opens 6 April 2021
