After completion of this
course, you may be able to:
1.
Use programme evaluation terminology correctly and with confidence.
2.
Apply Rossi, Lipsey and Freeman’s (2004) hierarchy of programme evaluation and
its typical evaluation questions to a programme.
3.
Elicit a programme theory for a specific programme and depict this theory using
any one of the three documenting formats you have studied.
4.
Test the plausibility of the programme theory by reviewing and collating
relevant social science research and theories.
5.
Assess whether a programme was implemented as intended.
6.
Assess whether a programme benefited those who received it.
7.
Assess whether those who received the programme are better off than those who
did not and whether the programme caused this improvement.
8. Design a monitoring
framework and database.

Fees:
R5 200 per course for non-registered students,
R3 000 for SU students, R3 800 for other students and R4500 for SU
staff. Fees must be paid at enrolment and proof of payment should be provided
to the course administrator at least 2 weeks before the course starts.
Places are limited and allocated on a first paid basis. Course fees include
refreshments during tea breaks. Participants are responsible for own travel and
accommodation arrangements.
Attendance
and assignments:
Participants are expected to
attend 5 days of classes/seminars from Monday to Friday (9:00 until 13:00) The
final assignment for the course takes place outside of this period.
Participants who are not interested in acquiring academic credits for courses
are not expected to submit assignments (but full payment is required).
