Welcome to Stellenbosch University
MPhil Programme in Science and Technology Studies (STS) 2019

CREST is inviting suitable applications for the MPhil programme in STS in 2019.

Scholars in this field investigate how societal forces shape scientific research and how research impacts on society.

Three different options are open to prospective MPhil students: (1) General Science and Technology Studies; (2) Research Management and Evaluation; and (3) Science and Public Engagement.

Depending on the option chosen, the programme includes modules such as: Science Policy Themes • Bibliometrics • Research Evaluation • Science and its Publics • Research Uptake and Societal Impact • Science Engagement in Society • Research Management • Science, Technology and Development.

The modular structure of the course makes it possible for participants to study over a period of one or two years, without the need to be in Stellenbosch permanently.

Participants have to attend eight modules (each consisting of two to three teaching days and a module assignment), followed by a more comprehensive research assignment.
