What is the focus of the course?

Participants will be able to use Afrikaans in a functional manner. They will gain Afrikaans vocabulary for use in basic communication. This course is practical and interactive, and real-life scenarios are incorporated to encourage the use of authentic language with a focus on all four language skills. 

Any prerequisites?

Participants must be able to attend in person. Access to the internet, Wi-Fi, and mobile data are essential.

How is this course presented?

The face-to-face time focuses on authentic and interactive language use activities where participants get the opportunity to practice the target language in real-life situations. The short course is presented over a period of 10 weeks.

Face-to-face contact time = 20 hours (2 hours per week)

Online activities = 10 hours (1 hour per week of autonomous learning) 

What are the course outcomes?

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to do the following in Afrikaans:

• greet and introduce yourself
• provide basic personal information such as name, age, address, and telephone number
• ask and respond to basic questions
• communicate socially using strategic competence
• use basic vocabulary related to everyday life.

What does the course cost?

The course cost is R4 700 per participant. This includes all course material, access to the online platform, and refreshments which will include something small for supper. The course fee must be paid in full no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the course.
