The Stellenbosch-Rostock
Septuagint Congress on the Theology of the Septuagint will take place in the
weekend of 30 September to 2 October 2022. The venue for this meeting is the
Department of Ancient Studies of Stellenbosch University (SU). This congress
is a follow-up meeting of a similar congress that took place in the same venue in
August 2018. The conference theme of the 2018 meeting was “Toward a Theology of
the Septuagint”. There the question of whether a theology of the Septuagint is necessary
and viable was posed and answered in the affirmative. The conference theme of
the 2022 congress is “Theology and the Theological Reception of the Septuagint”.
The conference is a truly international one. It is organized by three
colleagues, two from Germany, Prof. Martin Rösel from Rostock University (and
visiting Professor of the theological faculty at the SU) and Prof. Wolfgang
Kraus from Saarland, as well as Prof. Johann Cook, emeritus from Stellenbosch University. Twenty-two scholars from all over the world will participate
in the conference. Seven scholars will be participating by using Zoom
facilities. Moreover, 40 postgraduate students of the Faculty of Theology of
Stellenbosch University will attend the conference via Zoom.
