​The Stellenbosch University Museum  invites  you to the screening of the documentary film Strike A Rock.

Strike A Rock is the story of two South African mothers and best friends, Primrose Sonti and Thumeka Magwangqana – two South African activists – who took on the infamous platinum mining company, Lonmin PLC. Although the company has significant legal obligations to the community where the mine is located, it was not complying with its responsibilities.

This community became internationally known after the 2012 Marikana Massacre, when police officers killed 37 striking mineworkers. However, instead of improving the living conditions that led to the strike in the first instance, the situation would seem to worsen. These two dynamic women form a women's organisation, Sikhala Sonke (We Cry Together), and over time take different paths in their search for social and economic justice.
