The New Wine into New Wineskins economic report by Stellenbosch University's Dr Nthabiseng Moleko and Prof Mark Swilling will be launched on 14 October 2020 at 17:00 SAST.

Titled “New Wine into New Wine Skins: Towards a Diversified Economy in a 21st Century World", the report and proposed alternative economic framework are a collaborative effort by policy-makers, economists and academics from diverse public, private and research institutions convened under the Social Justice M-Plan spearheaded by Prof Thuli Madonsela, the Law Trust Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University.

To overcome the stagnation of the economy, which has been deepened by Covid-19 and the national lockdown, the South African government must boldly look to drafting new economic policies that can deliver on the vision set out in the National Development Plan (NDP), the report says.

The event will see a “deep-dive" into what lies between the pages of New Wine into New Wineskins – facilitated by Prof Madonsela, followed by a Q&A.
