The Transformation Research Unit (TRU) at the department of Political Science has been at the forefront of comparative cross-cultural studies of new and established democracies since the early 1990s. To complement the on-going research TRU is now instituting activities aimed at capacity building. The programme aspires to train the next generation of researchers and civic leaders in South Africa in traditional and emerging methods and technologies in a data-driven study in the social sciences.

 The Programme includes

• Data Hub created in partnership with globally leading data collection centres 
• Outreach Programme in the form of an on-line tutorial
• Training Course
  

The Pilot Course will take place 2-4 December, 2019. The presenters are leading academics and industry experts from prominent institutions across the globe. The topics range from processes of democratisation, to elections in Africa, to international relations, to digitalisation and social media, to analytical research approaches. 

TRU invites SU lecturers and students to attend the course and offer feedback to help establish a first of this kind Summer School in the southern African region. Pilot course flyer (002).pdf
