Excellent news for the Faculty's students is that the first phase of the CGW Schumann Building Renewal Project – the upgrading of three undergraduate lecture halls on the ground floor by Stellenbosch University's Facilities Management Division – has been completed. Lecture rooms 101 and 107 (each with 137 seats), as well as lecture hall 104 (with 217 seats) are more than ready for the 2020 academic year.

These WiFi-enabled venues not only boast a brand new look and furnishings but are equipped with the latest technology.

Mr Johan van Rooyen, Manager of the Faculty's computer users' areas (Fharga), says, “The lecture halls are geared for the future, with facilities that support interactive and hybrid learning. Provision has also been made for students to use and charge their own devices during classes."

The first official event to be held in the big 'new' lecture hall, was the Dean's Concession Exam on Friday morning (24 January). (See photo.)

According to Mr MJ Brooks, Faculty Manager, the second phase of the renewal project will commence in June this year. “The second storey of the Schumann Building will then be upgraded. This area is mainly used for postgraduate students."
