SU competition in search of winning idea for water crisis

​The business accelerator at Stellenbosch University (SU), LaunchLab, is giving entrepeneurs and aspiring innovators the opportunity to win a share of R50 000 in seed-funding for their ideas to tackle our water crisis.

LaunchLab is running a contest in their search for looking for an innovative winning idea for water saving and management to find sustainable solutions for South Africa's water challenge.

This contest is held in collaboration with University of Western Cape (UWC), University of Cape Town (UCT) and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

"The water challenge in South Africa has the potential to significantly limit the economic growth potential of the country. At SU we are committed to making science and innovation relevant for society and therefore are now looking for solutions to this crisis," Prof Leopoldt van Huyssteen, SU's Chief Operating Officer, says.

LaunchLab is looking for business solutions with potential that may create the next breakthrough innovation within the following areas:

  • Water and waste management solutions that improve the quality of our water sources
  • Water filtration and treatment solutions
  • Water saving solutions
  • Water and waste recycling solutions
  • Water and waste management solutions for at work and at home
  • Water and waste management solutions for agriculture
