The Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA), organiser of the International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA), has nominated Dr Munya Saruchera, Interim Director of the Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management, as a member of the international steering committee for the 22nd edition of ICASA.

The international conference will be held in Harare in Zimbabwe from 4 to 9 December 2022 under the chairmanship of SAA President Dr David Pagwesese Parirenyatwa.

The objective of the steering committee is to provide planning and policy for the success of ICASA 2023 in the quest to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS, TB, hepatitis, malaria and emerging diseases on the African continent.

Dr Saruchera, who accepted the nomination, said, “ICASA conferences are Africa's continental showpiece event that takes place every year in December. It is an honour to be nominated to be a member of the international steering committee."

Among the responsibilities of the steering committee are defining the theme of the conference and the international criteria for the scholarship programme, as well as proposing 6 members to form the review committee for scholarships.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, Prof Ingrid Woolard, congratulated Dr Saruchera with his appointment. “It's excellent news and I believe he will play a significant role in this important committee. I would like to take this opportunity to wish him well in his tenure."

The first steering committee meeting will be held from the 17-19 November 2022 in Harare.
