The SU Ubuntu Learning community, in collaboration with the Ex-Cell project, recently hosted an online talk by Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke for incarcerated individuals at the Drakenstein and Brandvlei correctional facilities.

The Ex-Cell programme is a social impact initiative by staff members of SU's School of Accountancy in collaboration with the Department of Correctional Services, the Faculty of Law and the Ubuntu Learning Community. Its aim is to provide incarcerated youth with training in business acumen and other skills prior to their release to empower them to earn a living when they return to the outside world.

Moseneke spoke about his life journey, including his own arrest, and gave inspirational advice for the future. At the age of 15, Moseneke was arrested, detained and convicted of participating in anti-apartheid activity. He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, all of which he served on Robben Island. He studied for his matric as well as two degrees while in jail.
