Prof Ingrid Woolard, Dean of the SU Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, recently gave a talk at a Matie network event in Luxembourg.

The 2 July event organized by the Alumni Relations Office was attended by about 25 old Maties, most of them graduates of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences who work in the financial services sector in the city of Luxembourg.

The lecture on The tax system and the redistribution of income and wealth in South Africa was very well-received. It was followed by a robust discussion about the opportunities and challenges that South Africa faces as the country seeks the stronger and more inclusive economic growth that needs to underpin a new development path.

One of the participants, Mr Hendri Bruwer (BAccHons, 2014) commented: “Prof Woolard's visit was such a privilege – everyone I spoke to afterwards thoroughly enjoyed the engaging lecture."

According to Prof Woolard it was a wonderful evening. “I had no idea that so many of our graduates have migrated to the small principality of Luxembourg, and the turnout was excellent. The participants were very interested to hear news from their alma mater and clearly remain committed to contributing towards a thriving SU."

After the formalities there was a networking opportunity, and the alumni made the most of it to catch up with old friends and establish new relationships with fellow alumni. The provision of South African wine certainly enhanced the event and people chatted until after 23:00.IngridWoolard&LuxemburgAlumnus_small.jpg
