Prof. Arnold
Schoonwinkel, Vice-Rector: Learning and Teaching, hosted the annual event in
honour of 32 top-achieving first-year students of 2018 and their nominated
lecturers at Lord Neethlingshof on Wednesday 10 April 2019. Dr Antoinette van
der Merwe guided the proceedings, which were also attended by faculty deans and
vice-deans for Learning and Teaching. The invited speaker, Prof. Magda
Fourie-Malherbe, former vice-rector for Learning and Teaching at SU and a
long-standing ambassador for learning and teaching, inspired the young students
and the lecturers to consider what the global future would look like and what
role South African university-educated students would play in leading our
society into an unknown future.
