Dr Martin
Klausen and now Dr Mimmi Nilsson’s field work in SE Greenland (part of the
Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland’s (GEUS) expedition in 2012) led to
the sampling of many mafic dykes. Through Mimmi’s U-Pb baddeleyite dating, some
of these were found to be between 1268-77 +/- 4 Ma, and thereby related to the
Mesoproterozoic Gardar alkaline province. This led Dr Alex
Bartels (then GEUS postdoctoral researcher on the Gardar province) to first-author a paper for
a special volume on Large Igneous Provinces in the Scandinavian Journal of
Geology (better known as GFF), which recently was awarded
as one of their three best publications in 2016.
