Prof Homi Bhabha to visit Stellenbosch University

​​​Professor Homi Bhabha (Bio), the world’s premier post-colonial literary theorist and Director of the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University, will visit Stellenbosch University next week.

On Tuesday 15 August,​ Prof Bhaba will engage with students on the theme Engaged Scholarship and Ethical Citizenship. The event will take place at 12:15 in the the Perold Building (next to the Student Centre). (More info here).

Two events are open to the public and the media:

1. On 16 August (more info here​) Prof Bhaba will be in conversation with Emeritus Professor Njabulo Ndebele, Chair of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, poet, novelist and essayist. The event takes place at 17:30 in the Attie van Wijk Auditorium, Faculty of Theology, 171 Dorp Street, Stellenbosch.

2. Earlier on Wednesday 16 August, Prof Bhabha will be in conversation with Professor Tamar Garb of the University College of Londen, and the artist Sue Williamson (more info here). The event will also see a screening of Sue Williamson’s 2-channel video art installation, It’s a pleasure to meet you. Candice Mama, a young woman whose father was killed by Eugene de Kock, and who forgave de Kock and campaigned for his parole release, will make a guest appearance. The event takes place at 12:15 in the Scholtz Hall, University Museum, 52 Ryneveld Street, Stellenbosch.
