More than 500 BSc degrees awarded

More than 500 degrees in the natural sciences will be awarded during Stellenbosch University's December graduation ceremonies this week.

On Thursday, 8 December, 17 doctoral degrees will be awarded, while 487 BSc, 35 Honours- and 46 MSc-degrees will be awarded on Friday 9 December. That is a total of 585 degrees in the natural sciences.

During the graduation ceremony on Friday, the SU' Chancellor's award for outstanding achievement will also be handed over. This year the worthy recipients are Prof. Bert Klumpermann, distinguished professor and holder of the DST/NRF SARChI research chair in Advanced Macromolecular Architectures, and Prof. Leon Dicks, distinguished professor in the Department of Microbiology.

An MSc student in physics, Mr Xavier von Stein, will receive the S2A3 medal for the best MSc student in the natural sciences at SU. This award is made annually by the Southern African Association for the Advancement of Science and is awarded to the best MSc student in the natural sciences at each of South Africa's tertiary institutions.
