Stellenbosch University's own Welgevallen wine cellar will be selling specially labelled celebratory Graduandi 2016 wines during graduation week from 5 to 9 December 2016.

SU is the only university in South Africa with its own wine cellar. It is located within walking distance of the campus next to the Eerste River and near the entrance to the Welgevallen Experimental Farm

The historic Stellenbosch University (SU) emblem and the 2016 graduation year feature on each bottle of Die Laan and Rooiplein Maties wines being sold during graduation week.

The 2015 Die Laan Merlot received a gold Veritas medal this year, while two other wines also received Veritas recognition in 2016. Only 600 bottles of Die Laan Alumni 2015 Magnum (Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Petit Verdot blend) are available.

Riaan Wassung, cellar master of the Welgevallen Cellar, invited students from all faculties to buy some of these wines as a memento of their student years on the SU campus. "It makes a great thank you gift to your parents, a lecturer or others who have supported you during your studies," Wassung suggests.

To place orders, contact Riaan Wassung (winesales@sun.ac.za) at the Welgevallen Cellar for more information. Visit the Facebook page "Die Laan Wines" at https://www.facebook.com/DieLaanWines/ for information about the wines available.

Purchases can be made directly from the cellar during graduation week from 08:00 to 16:00. It is situated in Suidwal Street between Paul Roos Gymnasium and the Coetzenburg Stadium. It is however advisable to place orders beforehand.

Payment can be made electronically (by EFT), while card and cash facilities are also available at the cellar.

It is essential to collect orders during graduation week. The cellar will be closed after graduation week until 9 January 2017
