Both Steinhoff Maties Hockey Men and Women will play for overall glory in the Western Province Grand Challenge (WPGC) this coming Saturday.

According to the new format of the WPGC, the four top teams after the first round play against each other again in a second round of matches.

On Saturday, Maties will play against WPCC to decide the winner of the league. Both Maties teams are the defending champions. If Maties Men manage to win the league against undefeated WPCC it will be the first time since 2009 that they hold both the USSA and WPGC titles in one season.

Maties Women play at 15:00 and the men at 18:00. All matches are played at Hartleyvale.

This past weekend Maties Women drew 2-2 against Somerset West, while Maties Men thrashed Fish Hoek 5-2.

Edwin Reed scored in his debut for Maties Men while Shannon Boucher, Daniel Bell, Luke Schooling and Keenan Horne scored the other goals. It was Bell's last game of the season for Maties before leaving for Belgium to play club hockey. He hopes to be back next season. Dylan Swanepoel will lead Maties for a last time this weekend, while striker Boucher will also play his final game. Women's co-captain Quanita Bobbs scored both goals for her team.
