Two Maties were part of the South African team that won the World University Netball championships in Miami (USA) on Sunday, 17 July.

The team beat Jamaica 43-39 in the final.

Juline Rossouw and Charmaine Baard were very excited about their team's close victory.

"We're very happy," Charmaine said on Sunday night, while Juline added that it was a "tough and physical match".

She described the tour as an "amazing experience" and said the win to top it all off was "great".

South Africa also beat the USA (93-18), Namibia (74-30), Trinidad and Tobago (63-26), England (71-30) and Uganda (52-42).

Juline, a former learner of Paarl Gimnasium, and Charmaine, a former learner of Brackenfell High School, are both Education students – Juline in her fourth year and Charmaine in her third year.

Juline was included in the training squad earlier in the year while Charmaine was included later after some of the players in the squad were injured. They left for Miami on Sunday 10 July.

The players will now return home and shift their focus to the upcoming Varsity Netball tournament.
