In 2012, the then Rector of Stellenbosch
University, Prof Russel Botman, launched the USB Small Business Academy (SBA).
Now, four years later, this social initiative has been well established and is
recognised for the difference it is making to the lives and businesses of small
business owners in low-income communities.
Join us for this special Coffee Shoptalk where Dr Marietjie Theron-Wepener,
head of the SBA, will take us back to the origins of the SBA and Luvuyo Rani,
CEO of Silulo Ulutho Technologies and founding member of the SBA, will discuss
the significance of the SBA in communities in the Western Cape.
Edith Kennedy, operations manager of the SBA, will talk about the mentorship
programme by USB alumni, which forms the key component of the SBA Development
Programme.
An SBA graduate, Rushana Charles, director of the Little Mermaids Swim School
in Strandfontein, will share her story on how the SBA helped to improve her
business and leadership skills.
Two of the current SBA participants will sell their products, so please support
the Department of Coffee and Thembile’s Bakery.
