JUST CONVERSATIONS

The Stellenbosch University Museum invites you to a discussion entitled:

“Re-imagining spatial politics: Land, memory and the right to access"

Ms. Querida Saal (Researcher, Development Action Group)

Querida is a researcher at the Development Action Group where her work is focused on urban land and housing issues. She holds a master's degree in political science from Stellenbosch University. Querida is an experienced human rights researcher skilled in quantitative and qualitative research, policy analysis, and project impact evaluations. She has worked as a researcher at various institutions where she tracked the political, security, socio-economic, infrastructure and retail developments across various African countries. She is passionate about development and has always had a keen interest in a wide range of issues, including socio-economic rights, poverty alleviation, inequality, development, gender, and civil and political rights. She is excited to be working for an organisation that has a rich history in ground-breaking work on urban development and urban land reform.

Ms. Chrischené Julius (Acting Director, District Six Museum)

Chrischené is currently Acting Director of the District Six Museum, and heads the Collections, Research and Documentation department. She has been involved in several exhibition and research projects, with a particular focus on oral history research and the way this methodology has evolved as part of the ethos of a community museum. She manages and conducts interviews for oral history projects alongside museum staff. Her general focus has been on the use of oral histories as a tool for community histories. She also critiques the ways in which oral history has at times been used to exclude voices and build meta-narratives of apartheid experiences. She is a history and museum studies graduate of the University of the Western Cape and the University of Cape Town.
