Natuurlewe en Bewaring in Volhoubare Ekonomiese Ontwikkeling

Die VN 2030 Agenda vir Volhoubare Ontwikkeling met sy 17 Doelwitte vir Volhoubare Ontwikkeling se doel is om die konneksie  tussen verskillende ekonomiese, omgewings- en sosiale internasionale beleide te verbind. Dit sluit in prosesse en strategieë wat die bewaring van natuurlewe aanspreek, soos die Konvensie vir Internasionale Handel in Bedreigde Spesies van Fauna en Flora, die Wêreldbewaringsstrategie en die Konvensie vir Biologiese Diversiteit. Hoe word die begrippe wild en bewaring in hierdie prosesse en strategieë verstaan? Hoe hou hulle verband met volhoubare ekonomiese ontwikkeling? Wat is die gevolge vir die ontluikende Afrika-konsep van 'n natuurlewe-ekonomie

Prof Francis Vorhies is the founding director of the African Wildlife Economy Institute at Stellenbosch University and the Academic Director of the School of Wildlife Conservation at the African Leadership University. He is also the executive director of Earthmind, a professional association focused on the nexus between conservation and business. Previously, he was chief executive of the Earthwatch Institute in the UK, chief economist of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Switzerland, resource economist for the African Wildlife Foundation in Kenya, and a founder of Eco Plus in South Africa advising the conservation industry on economic policy and business strategy. Prof Vorhies has a PhD in Economics from the University of Colorado and a Diploma in Integrated Environmental Management from the University of Cape Town. He is a member of IUCN Commission specialist groups on sustainable use, conservation finance, and business.
