McElory the entrepreneur and initiator of Praelexis, co-founded and launched the company in October 2012, along with Con Bruce and George Farmer. McElory holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics and has an undergraduate Degree in Computer Engineering. Prior to Praelexis, he was a senior lecturer at the Computer Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He has also served as a Director of the MIH Media Lab at Stellenbosch University from July 2011 to January 2013. In July 2011 to June 2012, he spent the year as a post-Doctoral Researcher at the Catholic University Leuven, in Belgium. ​
